12th Jan 2009, Monday
The day our little bundle of joy was born!
Here's his little birth story for all those who are interested...
All settled in with little red scrachies...oops...
Had a 39 weeks check up at the Gynae's office last Wed and mummy still does not have any contractions, her cervix was dilated at 2-3cm and so Dr Hema suggested an induction if there is still not progression on 12 Jan.
The nurse called on Thursday to confirm the induction on 12 Jan at 6am in the morning but was told to call at 5am just in case the Labor and Delivery ward is packed with emergencies.
Mummy had some mixed emotions about having an induction because her friends had suggested to let Caleb come out naturally on his own and since he is our first baby, an induction might take a long time... Still mummy went ahead because she has been feeling really unwell with all the rashes breakout she is having plus Yi Yi will be going home soon and she still have not play with Caleb yet!
Woke up on today at 5am to give the ward a call and the induction was confirmed! Daddy was really really excited, mummy was feeling all happy too... We checked in at 6am and was told that baby Caleb's head was in position and mummy's cervix is nice and soft but dilation is still stuck at 2 to 3cm. But the monitor does show that mummy is having contractions and am at the Early Labor Stage...
Still the doc went ahead to order Pitocyn, a medication that will help to start up mummy's contractions. The medication was started at 7.30am... And indeed mummy was able to feel the contractions every few minutes all so and she thought that she will be able to bear with the contractions without epidural medication. The nurse and the gynae, Dr Misty Johnson predicted that Caleb will be born around late afternoon! We were all so excited...
By 9.30am or so, Dr Johnson came to break mummy's waterbag and it wasn't that painful after all! She felt a warm gush of liquid flowing beneath her... Soon after the contractions came fast and furious!!! By 1030am, the nurse came and told mummy that if mummy needs an epidural mummy will have to let her know soon because the anaesthesiologist will be in the operation theatre at 1130am for a ceaserean, so if mummy needs an epidural by then... she would not be able to get it...
Mummy started to get really worried cause the pain was really horrible, she was thinking if the labor ends in the late afternoon and she won't be able to get the anaesthesiologist later she gonna hurt really really bad. Plus the contractions then was every 2mins or less apart, she couldn't even breathe properly, all that she had learnt, she had forgotten with the tension of the pain! So she decided to go ahead with the epidural. I think I almost hear her scream!
We waited for about 15mins or so for the anaesthesiologists to arrive... And mummy was in terrible pain by then, probably psychologically as well, maybe since she knows that she is going to have the pain relief? But But But... the nurse never check how much she was dilated before mummy gets her epidural! So guess what, after the the epidural was inserted, the nurse checked mummy and she was already 10cm dilated! That's why the pain was so intolerable!!! So mummy got her epidural for about 15mins or so, then she had to prepare to push baby Caleb out!
Still mummy think that the epidural came at a good time as the pain relief finally allowed mummy to be able to rest and breathe for a little bit before all the pushing begins, so she is really thankful for that...
Dr Misty came at 11.55am or so and we started the pushing... After about 6 to 9 contractions later (mummy can't remember) Caleb finally came out at 12. 24pm!!! Mummy broked into tears while Caleb was in her arms and a proud daddy and Yi Yi smiled away!
Caleb weighed a good 6Lbs 14oz (3.13 Kg) and 19 Inches (48cm) in length! So far, Caleb has also successfully breastfeed 4 times, pooped 3 times and changed by daddy plus he is a very very happy baby!!!
Thank you everyone for your wishes and we shall update again very soon! Thank you Uncle Eclipse and family for coming to visit us at the hospital and the very beautiful flowers! Hugs hugs, Kor Kor Zachy I think i should be able to play with you very very soon!
Bliss after epidural, finally can smile...

About My Name Pronounced as: "K-lerb, Loo-kas"
Caleb- A faithful dog/companion, is also bold. In the Bible Caleb and Joshua were the only 2 spies that had the bold faith to believe that God will give them the land filled with giants. With the odds stacked against them, Joshua and Caleb remained faithful to God's word. I pray our Caleb owns up to the meaning of his name, that he is faithful to God and bold in living his life for God.
Though many might have think that, "huh meaning of a dog???" but when you reverse spell the word "dog" what does it turn out to be?- "God" And you know how much our family loves dogs so when we chance upon the meaning we were like, OMG that's so meant to be. The qualities, loyal companion, big hearted... It's definitely a name great for a little boy and for a man to be! Though Jason and I do not attend church regularly, it's definitely gonna be a good name if he decides to become religious.
Lucas- Light or bearer of the light. Lucas is definitely going to bring light into our lives...
Here's a list of things that Daddy and Mummy are preparing for my arrival and some of them were passed down by their friends & relatives. Others, were gifts! Thank you very much all aunties and uncles, Jies Jies and Kors Kors!
