Friday, April 24, 2009

Sorry for the lack of posts!!!

It had been a duper crazy week!
Our flight has finally been confirmed, we will be heading home via United Airways on 29Apr!!! Yipee yeah yeah... and so the past 2 weeks had been really crazy! There were so many stuff to pack and settle! And just a few days ago we finally received Caleb's passport! Yeah he is safe to travel with us now...

Frosty's quarantine space has also been confirmed and he was certified fit to travel by the vet yesterday. Now we are home with our last minute packing of the luggages! Check out our 2 little boys, they were just chilling out together while we both were busy! So cute right!!!

We are heading off to LA, San Francisco and Napa Valley for a road trip today and this is going to be our last post right here in Phoenix Arizona! We are going to miss this place and our friends here very much!
Shall post more when we can! Now we can't wait to see our friends and family back home!!!

Fingers licking good??? Ummm nope, Fingers Sucking Good!!!
Caleb have always been trying to lick on his little fingers since he turned 2 months old. He had been trying to fit his entire fist into his tiny mouth but recently, he seemed to have suddnly woke up and realised,
"hmmm I dun need to fit all my fingers in, the thumb itself, is actually delicious enough!"

Aunty Sherry says its good that I'm learning to self comfort myself at this young age, apparently in time to come, I will learn to put myself to sleep if I wake up in between my sleep! We'll see!

Mummy didn't want me to learn to suck on my thumb... She's afraid I'll develop a bad habit! Grandma said that mummy does this when she was a little baby too!Caleb gets upset when mommy pulls his fingers away from his little mouth. He looks sooooo cute when he is doing this!

Listen to me while I suck on my fingers, the sounds I'm making, made it seem like my fingers are the most delicious food in the whole wide world!

Water Boy!
Sunday, April 12, 2009

Caleb had his first swim today! We did not bring him to the pool though coz I read somewhere that babies before their 6mths are not suppose to go to the pool, not sure if its because of the shots they have not had or because of the chlorine in the water. Anywayz, since we have a super huge bathtub, the size of a jacuzzi tub we decide to use it for Caleb first swimming experience!

Oh my gosh our little sweetheart loves the water very much! He was all fussy before the swim but when he got into the water, he enjoyed it very much and even smiled!!! Look at his bright eyes! He even kicked the water with his chub chub legs! When daddy supported his neck, he was even able to float in the water! Babies are really natural born swimmers!

Told daddy we should do this more often in our big big tub! Now our little sweetheart is fast asleep! Guess the swimming workout did him very well!!!

Cat-Napper
Friday, April 10, 2009

I was just reading some Excerpts from Elizabeth Pantley new book "The No-Cry Nap" Solution and realised that our darling Caleb is a cat napper!!!

She describes Cat-Nappers in her book as the following, "Does your baby fall asleep being fed, while in a car seat, sling, rocker, or someone’s arms? When transferred to bed, does your baby then sleep 30 to 50 minutes? That’s the exact length of one sleep cycle. These factors combined define the main cause of mini-naps: an inability to fall asleep or stay asleep without aid – your baby wakes fully at the end of the first sleep cycle, resulting in a too-short nap."

While I'm typing this post, Caleb is 20mins into his mid morning nap in our new Beco Carrier with me swaying left to right, left to right, observing his sleep cycle. Indeed so far, all of E. Pantley's descriptions of the sleep stages can be found with Caleb's sleep habits!

Stage 1- Very Light Sleep (5 to 15 mins)

I was watching the clock 9.55am to 10.10am-That's exactly 15mins!!! How predictable you are our little one! He stirrs, I began to rock him for about 1min or so, he continues to be in lala land...

Stage 2- Light to Moderate Sleep (Lasts up to 15mins)

10.10am to 10.20am, he stirrs yet again, I have to sway once again!

Stage 3-Deep Sleep(Last up to 15mins)

Only 15mins??? Oh my gosh yup between 10.30 to 10.35am he kept rubbing his face against the carrier, he opens his eyes, he is not too happy. I pop in the pacifier, sway and rock but he couldn't go back to sleep again. So I had to take him out of the carrier and swaddle him, pop in the pacifier and pat him to sleep once again... It's 10.55am, he is finally asleep on his little mattress all swaddled, eyes closed, pacifier in his mouth. Well I guess we never made it pass Stage 3!!!

Hopefully this 10.55am sleep cycle lasts! He seems to dislike the swaddle very much though, but yet when he sleeps, he sleeps better with it. He refuse to sleep on his tummy although he likes tummy time! Gosh how else can we help him sleep better without getting startled easily??? I'm still keeping him in his swaddling blankie though... As parents, our ultimate goal is for our babies to have a good sleep so that they will grow well and be happy babies! It begs me to think whether I should follow what my mum does when she looks after my nephew, to put him in a hammock for his naps, well at least my nephew does sleep better with the hammock and my mum was free with her hands to do other stuff! And for that I think my nephew used it till he was at least 2 years old!

Well anywayz, let's persevere on and be patient with our little cat-napper here and decide a while later. As for now, he is still doing pretty good. I really envy those parents who have little ones who can just fall asleep on their own... Guess we'll just have to keep trying!

*** Update, he slept for a full 1hr with his swaddler blankie and pacifier before waking up, crying!

Field Trip!
Thursday, April 9, 2009

Caleb and I had the car today coz mummy wanted to run some errands. So Uncle Jervis came and fetch Daddy to work in the morning. It was kinda exciting coz its the first time we are going out together on our own and Caleb's first time sitting alone behind in the car!

Both Caleb and mummy did very well though! We manage to run all the errands we had to do in 3 and a half hrs- went to Joanne's to get some scrapbooking material as well as some muslin cloth, to kohls to get some kitchenware for our new SG kitchen as well as BX to get daddy's clinique products, oooh and not forgetting to UPS to send out a mail!!! The problem is that there were so many places to go to and they are not within walking distance of each other, we have to get out from the car a few times! But luckily with the help of our wonderful stroller plus our very new beco carrier shopping was a bliss with Caleb! We just took our own sweet time and enjoyed ourselves out in the afternoon. I even had some popeye's chicken!

While we were waiting at the checkout counter in Kohls, Caleb was in a rather good mood and decided to flirt with 2 elderly ladies behind us. They were so smitten with his little coos and smiles and couldn't help themselves but touch his chubby legs and arms! Mummy was really pleased! Even the cashier lady wasn't spared!!! Caleb's definitely a chick magnet, too bad it wasn't daddy who brought Caleb out all by himself haha!!!

We manage to change Caleb's bum bum while we were at Kohl's dressing room, mummy was trying out some dresses when he decided to poop, he even had one feed after our trip to BX. I must say nursing him directly is definitely very convenient, no need to find cups of hot water, no bottles to warm up, no need to pump, less stuff to bring out, anytime anywhere!!! The only problem is that I can't leave him to go out on my own for long... We did try one bottle feed last week though, and he did take it pretty well but daddy and I still prefers to direct BF him hehe... Hassle free! Here's a pic of him with daddy trying out 20mls of feed!

Caleb did fuss abit while he was sitting behind in the car alone one time, mummy had to push him his pacifier while we stopped at one red light hehe, thank god mummy has a long enough arm to be able to reach him haha... By the end of the trip after our last stop from BX to UPS, Caleb was fast asleep in the car! But it wasn't for long though, only about 20mins nap and he was wide awake once again...

Well well, we shall do it again soon, as for now Caleb's knocked out in la la land!

Best Buddies
Wednesday, April 8, 2009

Me and my best buddy asleep together! It's wierd how Caleb can calm himself back to sleep with Frosty's fur touching his skin... Normally he would have require some intensive bouts of pat on his back or even some form of rocking... See how he loves his pacifier now... oh dear... what have we done?! oops...

Read the Apr issue of a baby magazine and chanced upon this article, "Milestones-What you need to know about your baby's development"and it hit me once again how quickly time passes and Caleb is now turning 3 months old! So far according to the article, his milestones should include the following and he is definitely growing "according to the BOOK" haha:
-Fine Motor Skills: Brings hands to mouth, clasp hands together
-Gross Motor Skills: Master head control
-Language: Turns his head towards our voices, Coos
-Social Development: Smiles
-Cognitve: Not till 6 mths of age!!!
